Detroit Bike City 2013

Detroit Bike City Expo 2013

With spring just around the corner, many Detroiters are looking forward to cruising bike-friendly routes such as the Detroit Riverfront and Dequindre Cut. Whether you’re in the market for a brand new set of wheels or just looking to learn about the latest cycling products, you’ll want to check out Detroit Bike City when it returns to the newly remodeled Cobo Center this Saturday, March 16.

I won this vintage Schwinn Cruiser at an auction at last year’s Detroit Bike City Expo.

I had the chance to attend the first Detroit Bike City expo held last March. It was a great experience and I walked out of there a happy camper after placing the winning bid on a 1960s Schwinn Starlet cruiser — which I can’t wait to put to use downtown this summer.

This year’s show and swap promises to be bigger and better. Those who attend will find a marketplace of more than 100 cycling-related vendors, a bike sale/swap area, an impressive display of custom bikes, auctions and even BMX demonstrations.

Broderick Tower residents and cycling enthusiasts Matt and Kathi store their bikes on a mounted wall rack within their unit on the 23rd floor.

For those wondering where to keep your bike while living in an apartment in downtown Detroit, there are many options. Broderick residents will be able to utilize a bike rack in the back alley of the building that will be installed sometime this spring. In addition, bikes can also be kept in the rented basement storage units, or even in your unit using a mounted wall rack such as the one pictured to the right.

Check out this promo video from EagleEyeMediaTV to get a taste of what to expect at this year’s expo.

Tickets for the Detroit Bike City expo are $10 at the door, or you can buy an early-bird ticket here. Keep up with the latest from Detroit Bike City on Facebook and Twitter.
