Step into sophistication with help from Midtown’s Hugh

Whether you’re looking to add a little Mad Men-style sophistication to your bachelor pad, searching for a great guy-approved gift or just interested in browsing the latest in Detroit retail, Hugh in Midtown is a must-stop-shop.

Founded in 2009, Hugh previously existed in two downtown locations as a pop-up shop, including the location behind Detroit’s Fox Theater where Hot Taco is currently housed. However in 2011, Hugh was selected as the winner of the inaugural Hatch Detroit contest and has enjoyed a great storefront location along Cass Ave. since November 2012.

Inside Hugh you’ll find a wide range of sophisticated masculine items.

A contemporary take on the classic bachelor pad style, Hugh has everything from barware and smoking accessories, to home decor and personal items, to furniture and lighting. Store owner Joe Posch provides great insight and advice regarding the products he hand picks for his store on Hugh’s website, www.lovehughlongtime.com.

Classic shaving equipment makes a unique guy-approved gift.

I recently stopped in to browse for a gift for my boyfriend and ended up snagging a few classic shaving tools including a badger hair shaving brush, shaving soap and a chrome double-edged razor.

Posch, the brains behind the brilliance that is Hugh, embodies everything that’s right about a small business owner. He was friendly, knowledgeable and took the time to work with me to find the perfect gift for my budget.

This place has some seriously cool, one-of-a-kind gifts for every guy, such as these cuff links made from actual vinyl seats from Olympia Stadium, a hollow “Good Book”  flask holder, and more vintage cocktail accessories than you can count in an episode of Mad Men.

Have you visited Hugh recently? What great items did you snag? Let us know in the comments.

Hugh is located 1.6 miles north of Broderick Tower, at 4240 Cass Ave., in Midtown Detroit. For more information call (313) 831-HUGH or follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
