Grocery Shopping in Detroit

One of the questions I get asked most about living in Detroit is, “But where do you grocery shop?” Despite the misconception, there are in fact many options of local grocery stores, not to mention our proximity to Eastern Market which offers great options as well.

With the recent grand opening of the Detroit Whole Foods Market in Midtown, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share just a few of the many local grocery shops located near Broderick Tower apartments in downtown Detroit.

Downtown Detroit-area grocery stores include:

Whole Foods Market Detroit: 115 Mack Ave., 1.1 miles north of Broderick Tower, open 8am to 9pm seven days a week. 313-576-5300.

Harbortown Market on East Jefferson offers fresh produce, meats, organics and hot prepared food.

Harbortown Market: 3472 E. Jefferson, 2.6 miles southeast of Broderick Tower, open 8am to 9pm Monday through Saturday, and 9am to 7pm on Sundays. 313-259-9400.

Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe: 3100 Woodward Ave., 0.8 miles north of Broderick Tower, open 8am to 8pm (recently extended hours!) Monday through Saturday, and 10am to 6pm on Sundays. 313-974-7356.

University Food Center: 1131 W. Warren Ave, 2.5 miles northwest of Broderick Tower, open 8am to 8pm Monday through Saturday, and 8am to 6pm on Sundays. 313-833-0815.

Indian Village Market8415 E Jefferson Ave., 3.8 miles southeast of Broderick Tower, open 8:30am to 9pm Monday through Saturday, and 8:30am to 7pm on Sundays. 313-824-5100.

E&L Supermercado: 6000 West Vernor Hwy, 5.0 miles southwest of Broderick Tower, open 8:30am to 7pm Monday through Saturday, and 8:30am to 6pm on Sundays. 313-554-2140. (Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about Honey Bee).

Great post! There is also Eve’s Downtown Gourmet on Washington Blvd. below Detroit City Apartments, and Honey Bee Market in Mexicantown on Bagley.
