The summer fun continues in and around Detroit this weekend, regardless of the not-so-summerish weather! Looking for something fun to do? Here are five events happening in and around the D this weekend you might want to check out:
Drinks x Design at Pewabic Pottery: Thursday, Aug. 8 from 5:30-8pm at Pewabic Pottery, 10125 E. Jefferson Ave in Detroit. Drinks x Design will take over the Pewabic courtyard for the unveiling of the Detroit Design Festival‘s commemorative tile along with music, tours, drinks and of course design. Drinks x Design is a monthly open studio for the creative community. It is a partnership between Detroit Creative Corridor Center and Metro Times and is also sponsored by Quicken Loans. It also highlights some local professional design organizations: AIGA Detroit, AIA Detroit, IDSA Michigan, and NOMA Detroit.
Beach Party at Campus Martius Park feat. Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band: Friday, Aug. 9 from 5:30-8:30pm at the Beach at Campus Martius Park. Grab your favorite island wear and head down to Campus Martius to become part of the Parrot-Heads’ Paradise of Sights & Sounds. Bring a date or meet-up with family and friends for one big island party featuring the famous Parrots of the Caribbean band! Enjoy food and drinks at the Beach Bar & Grill while listening to great music on the Frankenmuth Brewery Stage as you relax on the large deck or dance in the sand.
Detroit Burger Brawl: Saturday, Aug. 10, 11am-3pm, Eastern Market. The 2013 Detroit Burger Brawl is a street fair-style strolling event with 20 participating restaurants and sponsors giving away a taste of their menu burgers. Some competitors include Green Dot Stables, the Rattlesnake Club and One-Eyed Betty’s. The event is a fundraiser for Gleaners of Southeast Michigan and also includes several family-friendly activities. Tickets are $10 at the door.
Detroit Ribs and R&B Music Festival: Friday, Aug. 9 through Sunday, Aug. 11, Hart Plaza. The 8th annual Ribs and R&B Music Festival takes place on the beautiful Detroit Riverfront in Hart Plaza downtown. The family friendly event features grilled sensations, drinks, shopping and a jam-packed entertainment lineup all weekend long. Cost is free all day Friday, and before 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. After 3pm, admission is $3.00.
Prince and Michael Jackson Experience: Friday, Aug. 9 at 9pm, St. Andrew’s Hall. The Prince and Michael Jackson experience is the ultimate tribute party to the Purple One and King of Pop. Fans celebrate these idols on the dance floor as DJ Dave Paul mixes album cuts, remixes, rare tracks and hits from two of the greatest artists of our time. This dance party event features music from Prince, Michael, The Time, The Jackson 5, Sheila E., Janet Jackson, Vanity 6 and many more. Tickets are $10.
